Thanks for your reply to my thread.

I have consulted my dentist and he said I can observe for a longer for my hurt teeth to recover and if situation not improve after say one month, will re-assess and see if treatment needed. He ask me to proceed with the eye surgery first.

I want to know more about the prognosis after ERM surgery and post surgery care I need to take and pay attention to.

1     You said visual recovery may take 6 to 8 weeks. Do you mean that in the initial 6 weeks, my vision will be like pre-operation? Or even worse than pre-operation? Will my vision be worse than before surgery in the initial period right after surgery? How about metamorphopsia? Will it be improved soon or also need 6-8 weeks before I can see improvement?

2     You said earlier that there is very questionable oedema in one of the pictures (OCT). Do you mean that it looks like or not look like oedema? If it is edema, will it make surgery more difficult and complicated? Will it affect recovery?

3     I am indeed worried about the surgery, for fear of complications and unsatisfactory recovery. From your experience, is my ERM severe or complicated?

4     After surgery, do I have to clean my eyes with special eye wash ? Or I can still wash my eye using tap water?

5     I understand that one complication is infection and so I need to take good care to avoid infection. In this connection, what specific things I should do or not do after surgery, especially those things that we will easily overlook?

6     What other care do I need to take after surgery? What should I pay attention to?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

1. The vision might be same or even worse. Usually there is some oedema & swelling after the surgery which leads to worsening of vision. If gas injected that will also hamper vision take 2-3 weeks in recovery depending on the type of gas. Metamorphopsia will slowly improve as the retina remodels.

2 You said earlier that there is very questionable oedema in one of the pictures (OCT). Do you mean that it looks like or not look like oedema? If it is edema, will it make surgery more difficult and complicated? Will it affect recovery?
2. The oedema will not affect surgery. Though it might prolong the recovery period.

3 I am indeed worried about the surgery, for fear of complications and unsatisfactory recovery. From your experience, is my ERM severe or complicated?
3. Though it is very delicate surgery, in my experience outcomes are pretty good. Though a certain amount of risk is always there in any type of surgery.

4 After surgery, do I have to clean my eyes with special eye wash ? Or I can still wash my eye using tap water?
4. Protocols depend on surgeon and region. We advise patients to avoid water in the eye or face 15-20 days after the surgery.

5 I understand that one complication is infection and so I need to take good care to avoid infection. In this connection, what specific things I should do or not do after surgery, especially those things that we will easily overlook?
5. just maintain normal hygiene, avoid putting water in the eyes for 15-20 days. if required clean eyes with sterile cotton.

6 What other care do I need to take after surgery? What should I pay attention to?
6. if gas is injected you might be advised some positioning and avoidance of air travel and high altitude. Avoid unnecessary heavy work and out door activities.

Thanks for your advice in advance.
