Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In Surgery of Tracheo esophageal fistula, the communication between Trachea and Esopagus is separated and normal Anatomical continuity is maintained.
As per Medical literature, few long term complications like Reflux esophagitis , Pneumonia etc are described. He should undergo regular Upper GI endoscopy test. Another important complication is Recurrence of fistula. This can also be diagnosed with Upper GI endoscopy.
Please observe him for complications like Vomiting, Fever, Regurgitation etc and take him to Doctor immediately for check up.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
