Question: Dear Sir, In case of detection of non symptomatic gallstones of size 19.7mm in an unrelated health check up, in a 40 year old male is it advisable for gall bladder surgery? I have taken opinion from gastro medical and surgical doctor in a hospital and both said it's entirely upto me i.e patient. Considering the risks and future complications, should I proceed with surgery?

Brief Answer:
Do you have any medical problems at the moment?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns well.
Since you are 40 years old, I hope you have no medical problems like diabetes, high blood pressure or so. Please let me know if you have any?
Gall stone is very large and hence not amenable by any medications for sure. Hence needs surgery.
Infection of the gallbladder is the commonest complication in large gallstones and it is best to remove the gallbladder before any attack of gallbladder infection.
And if you are fit medically, this is the best time to get operated. Surely not urgent but you should plan asap.

I hope this answers your query.
