Question: Dear Sir/Madam
I was recently disgnosed with Ureaplasma urealyticum and im put on two weeks of doxycycline, im more than halfway through my treatment now. I didnt tell my parents, but i live with them and have dinner with them every night at home. I heard that it can be transmitted through coughing i.e. airbourne, and ive been coughing possibly as a side effect of the medication. How likely is it for me to spread it to my family due to coughing and sharing food? If there is a high risk i might have to tell them just in case so they can get tested too in case they show symptoms later on. I cover my mouth everytime i cough, its not like im coughing in their face. Thank you XXXXXXX

I am 28 years old male, I have visited a doctor and he prescribed me 2 weeks of doxycycline 100 mg taken twice daily once in the morning once at night. Thanks.
Brief Answer:
No risk of infection to family members
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Ureaplasma Urealyticum is a bacterial pathogen that infects the urinary and genital tracts in adults. It causes local infection and the most common mode of its transfer is through direct sexual contact. It doesn't infect the lungs or airways in adults and therefore there is no risk of transmission of infection to family members or close contacts through cough or saliva droplets.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your answer. Today is my last day of doxycycline treatment. I started experiencing coughing and a tight throat shortly after starting my doxycycline treatment two weeks ago, it got better afterwards. But these few days I'm starting to experience very minor chest pain whenever I cough, and small rashes have showed up under my chest, which seemed to have gotten better after I applied hydroderma cream. Are these just the side effects of doxycycline and should go away soon after I finish my doxycycline treatment today? Thanks.

Thank you. So it is unlikely to be due to something serious for example an HIV infection? I have no other symptoms and i had not engage in any high risk behaviours lately. Also it is relarively cool at my location. Thank you.

Regarding rash

Hi.
It is not a sign of HIV.
Moreover there is no high risk behavior, as you say. I suggest you to use a soothing lotion for the rash. You may also take an oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg tablet if it is itchy.
