![default](/r/images/default.png)
Kindly note that we are seeking for a cure for our mothers and we are confused whether its dementia, MS, or schizophrenia. here are all the information you need to know;
My mom is 65 years old
Non of the her family member have a history of cancer or tumours.
She doesn’t have any of the following diseases;
Diabetes, Hypertension, heart condition, joints disorder, lung disease, liver disease, and kidney disease.
Since 2015, we noticed she was losing her memory slightly. Now its obvious, she keeps repeating the same question every 3 min, she is trying to isolate herself from her family and friends, she lost her appetite, she cant focus in simple conversations, she become sensitive, anxieties, create stories of nowhere, she becomes even careless about her personal hygiene, she doesn’t remember the year or the date…etc
She went to the doctors several time ;
The first doctor diagnosed her situation as if she’s under pressure and stress
The second doctor diagnosed it as Dementia.
On Sep 4th, 2019 The third doctor asked for several exams he noticed from her tests that her testosterone levels was 3.93 nmol/L. Its more than double of the upper limit of the reference range (1.67 nmol/L). he suggested that we go to specialists for masculinizing ovarian tumours.
For your information, my mom started hormonal implant since April 2015, every 6 months she implant it. Her last implant was on april 2019 ,as the doctor claimed the hormonal implant was (estrogen 12.5%, testosterone 50%) and 200mg progesterone pills or cream.
On October 2019, the implant specialist noticed that the thickness of her uterus was 12 and for her age it should be 4! So she decided not to implant in October and prescribed for her 100mg progesterone pills, for two weeks at the beginning of her monthly cycle.
nowadays her condition is ; severe depression, lack of focus and forgetfulness, weakness in personality, there are no interests and desire for life and anxiety.
I hope you can help us
Thank you
The most likely diagnosis is dementia.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.
I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.
I have noted your mother's clinical details. Based on this, the most likely diagnosis is dementia. We need the following to confirm the diagnosis of dementia:
1. Detailed neuro-psychological testing
2. PET CT scan of brain
Work up should also include blood tests for vitamin B12 and thyroid, to rule out treatable causes of dementia.
Treatment can be decided once we have the above reports.
I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
Wishing you good health,
