Question: Dear Sir,
My 4 years 2 months old son has blood clot in his right eye. He has no pain. I am sending you two pictures for reference. We are not sure of any injury which lead to that. A day before this he was sneezing also. We are giving him Arnica XXXXXXX 30. Another doctor prescribed us Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution (ZENFLOX) eye drops. Please inform me how to proceed.

Brief Answer:
Suggests sub-conjunctival hemorrhage

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

I have gone though your query, seen the pictures uploaded and understand your concern

This is sub-conjunctival haemorrhage- a condition caused by rupture of minute blood vessels of eyeball, causing blood to seep under conjunctiva(the transparent covering of eyeball)

This can happen following minor injury to eyes, viral infections, or even spontaneously. The condition is common and not a serious thing- it will disappear its own in 1-3 weeks without any treatment. If there is any discomfort, you can use a lubricant eye drop(like Hydroxy methyl cellulose eye drops) 4-5 times daily for 5 days. Antibiotic drops like Ofloxacin are not needed/useful.

Only if this recurs again and again, we need further evaluation to rule out causes like bleeding disorders, low platelet count, high blood pressure etc. Otherwise, nothing to worry- it will gradually change in colour and disappear in few days. Stay relaxed.

I hope this answer will help

Hello Dr. Aslam,

Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. We are administering him 'Arnica XXXXXXX 30' 4 times a day (6 tablets), and feel that the blood clot is either becoming less vigorous or is spreading. I have attached a recent pic for comparison. Is there any need to worry or panic? Is it okay if the child reads and write for 30-35 minutes (school assignment) or will that worsen the situation? He is not a gadget freak, but is it okay if he watches TV/cell phone for 30-40 min?

In anticipation of your reply,
Dr. XXXXXXX Singh

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back

It is coming down compared to before.
No reason to worry or panic- just stay relaxed.
No need to restrict reading or watching screens. Everything can be done as usual. These activities will not worsen the condition.

Regarding the drug mentioned, since it is a homeopathic drug, no research data is available on its efficacy and hence difficult to comment.
Anyhow, no drug is needed for this condition- it will clear spontaneously.

I hope this answer will help
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help; otherwise you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.
Regards, Dr Aslam
