Dear Doctor, For Our One Month Old Girl Baby My

Question: Dear doctor, For our one month old girl baby my wife is giving both expressed breast milk and direct breast milk. Expressed breast milk we are giving around 300 to 350 ml in 24 hrs. And in between baby is taking direct breast milk also. But in the past three days baby is crying a lot in hunger. We are worried whether enough milk is produced or not or is there any other problem. Please advice is on this. Also I have attached as much milk baby is taking. And also please tell me the diet my wife should take while breast feeding. Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I understand your concern.
I need some more information before guiding you further -
1. When the mother is feeding from one breast is the milk dripping from the other breast?
2. When the baby is on exclusive breast plus expressed breast milk feeding is the baby passing urine at least 6 hours once?
3. Is the baby's crying definitely relieved only by feeding or she consolable otherwise also?

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on breastfeeding
Detailed Answer:
Hello... thank you for getting back with answers to my questions.
My suggestions for the baby are that you feed the baby every 2 hours once and in between if the baby is crying every 1 hourly.... first try to console her by lifting the baby up and soothing her.
I am telling this because every time a newborn baby cries it is not feed and it could be for human comfort and touch and also for mother's voice smell and sight.
Even with this if she is not coming down then you can use formula feeding if mothers feed is not adequate.
But when on exclusive breastfeeding if the baby is gaining weight appropriately and urinating 4 or 6 hours once, that means that mother has got adequate milk production.
Another important concept to keep the baby's stomach full is the concept of foremilk and hindmilk.
Fore milk which is the initial part of breastfeeding is sweeter to make the baby latch on well and the milk which comes from the last part of the feeding is rich in fat which is called hindmilk which will make the baby stomach full and also help the baby gain weight.
So my suggestion is that when you are feeding the baby it is best to feed two times consecutively from the same breast (so that both foremilk and hindmilk are fedd to the baby well) and then when feeding from the other breast again 2 times consecutively.
Try this for two weeks and you will definitely find good results.
Hope all these suggestions help!

1. While feeding in one breast the milk is not dripping from another breast. 2. baby is passing urine 7 to 8 times in 24 hrs. 3. baby feels releived only on direct breast feeding if we try to pacify the baby she is sleeping for 5 to 10 mins and if the baby is awake she cries for direct breast feeding. otherwise the baby is not consolable. thanks.
