Question: Dear sir

I had Hair transplantation on May first week in China. XXXXXXX onward i started using minoxidil 5% as per Hair transplant hospital advise. No medicines was given.

Later after three months i got fever and doctor given anti biotic injection and suddenly i got vomiting & back ache issue then i gone for testing my blood bilirubin & creatinine got increased. Creatinine came to normal in a week. Bilirubin was 3.9 and continued.

Then i stopped using minoxidil solution because of hospitalization. During that time i took bio-homin and Ursodeoxychlic acid tablets for 45 days prescribed by Nephro/Gastro doctor. During that time my hair growth was excellent.

Then after 45 days of treatment my Gastro doctor & Nephro doctor came to conclusion that my issue because of some medicine intake and no problem in my body. Advised me that stop their prescribed medicines.

During that time my bilirubin level was 2.7. My Doctor informed it will be elevated level only. Advised to take test after 15 days of stopping medicine. Then i stopped using medicines then my hair fall started.

After 15 days my bilirubin level came to normal (below 1.0) but hair fall not stopped. I am started losing my hair density. Then i started using minoxidil 5% again.

After 20 days of Minoxidil usage i took test again my bilirubin got increased to 2.1.

Please advise on my following queries
1. Is there any relation between hair transplant with my issues.
2. Using of Minoxidil cause bilirubin level increase.
3. Now 6.5 months completed. Still i feel numbness in my hair transplanted zone.
4. My hair fall not stopped and my hair density reducing day to day.

My hair transplant hospital advised to stick with minoxidil 5 % and get grow back. I am using morning and evening daily.

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Regarding minoxidil

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and her is my advice.

There is really no reason why minoxidil solution would cause elevation in serum bilirubin levels. Perhaps the antibiotics given for fever caused deranged liver function. Therefore I think you can safely continue with minoxidil solution. Numbnes in the transplanted area is perhaps due to nerve damage and is expected to recover with time. I suggest you to take Oral B complex vitamin supplement.

Hope i have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
