Describe The Steps To Inject Vitamin B 12?
Question: Please describe the steps to inject vitamin B 12. My script is to inject 1000 mcg a day for three consecutive days. In addition to the medicine, I received 3 BD 3ML syringes; Luer-Lok tip with BD PrecisionGlide needle. I was instructed to clean area with alcohol around site, that being my upper arm above bicep, remove green cap from vial, fill syringe, pinch hard around site, make certain there is no air in needle, insert needle 1/4 to 1/2 inches, back off slightly to determine if I hit a vein, if clear inject and remove syringe. Or I can go to my GP and have the nurse do it. Sounds easy, my wife will pinch and I will do the rest. Thank you

2. Take your bottle with B12 vitamin which has plastic cab on it - take it off and than take your alcohol and clean the top of this bottle. Inject the needle straight through the center of the rubber stopper and slowly pull back on the plunger. Check for air bubbles.
3. You need alcohol swab, open it, clean the surface of the skin in the upper arm area and let it dry a little bit,
3. Remove the cap from the needle,
4. Pinch the skin and than insert the needle at a 90 degree angle,
5. And now it is very important to aspirate (pull back the plunger to check if any blood collects in the needle, if yes remove the needle and insert it again),
6. If there is no blood push the plunger slowly,
7. Remove the needle,
8. Apply a clean cotton ball.
To be more confident with the injection you can practice on orange because skin and orange peel show similar resistance to puncturing.
