Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question Jillie. Hope I can be of help for you today.
Through reading your query I would like to help you with this question. Swollen lump above the knee and below the knee can be caused by chronic inflammation of your joint such as arthritis from overuse or any infection or a deformity that follows any kind of injury to the joint. Knee lumps can be caused by a number of other conditions as well, including infections or tumors of the bone or soft tissues. Is it soft or firm, painful or painless, fever? Any redness or warm? I would like to recommend you to give more history to help us to know better and that we can help you better. In this case we may need to know more characteristic of your knee lump. If any infection sign we may need to aspirate the joint fluid for culture. And if it just a lump no infection sign we may do ultrasound on your knee.
I hope that can help you, and please let me know if you have any clarification or question about that, and I would be welcome to discuss it with you further. I Hope you have good health.
Best regards,
Dr. Heang Chan Raksmey, General and Family Physician
