Diagnosed With BOOP. On Steroids. Is There Any Natural Cure?
Question: My sister has been diagnosed with BOOP, learned after being admitted to hospital for pneumonia. (also lyme's for many years). She is on high dose steroids and said this is eliminating any lung crystallization. Is that true, can lung crystallization be dissolved and prevented? If yes, how, and what are natural cures as well as the prednisone approach?

BOOP is basically an inflammatory disorder of the small airways. Due to the inflammatory process they are plugged with connective tissues(Lung crystallization).
Prednisone is a steroid and as anti inflammatory action. This prevents the inflammatory process of the small airway of the lungs thereby preventing the formation of connective tissue. This helps in reducing the non productive cough in the patients.
As for as the cure of the disease is concerned it is aimed at preventing the inflammation of the lung. This is the rationale of using prednisone.
By natural cures if you mean any herbal medicines, no there is non.
But most of the patient recover with in weeks or months following the steroid therapy.

Thank you. So it sounds like prednisone does not dissolve or prevent anything other than inflammation, and the hope is that inflammation stops so that Boop ends and prednisone discontinued and lung scarring avoided. What precautions can a person take to avoid lung scarring and eliminate any that has already occurred ( which is also referred to as crystallization, correct?)?
