Question: Diagnosed with Hidradenitis suppurativa- very bad, painful lumps in various places. Veteran who tested positive for TB 20+ years ago while serving abroad, so can't take humira. No surgery. Taken spironolactone, but that was no help. Have had areas cauterized, but the issue just comes back as bad as before. What are the risks of taking humira following a positive TB result many years ago? Are there other treatments possible?

Brief Answer:
Isotretinoin

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Hidradenitis suppurativa can be effectively controlled with the use of capsule isotretinoin. It is a vitamin A analogue and is safe.
Humira carries a risk of reactivation of tuberculosis so it is better to avoid.
You can meet your treating doctor and enquire about isotretinoin.
Let me know if you have any doubts.
Thank you
