Do 3 Days Old Babies Rarely Open Their Eyes?
Question: My newborn granddaughter (3 days old) rarely cries (even then she mostly just whimpers) and only opens her eyes very rarely and very briefly...no eye contact. One nurse in the hospital mentioned she seemed a little floppy. She is full term (38 weeks) weight 6lbs 12 , 20" long. Labor was about 6 hours. All usual testing in hospital apparently was ok, seeing pediatrician in two days. Should I be worried?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry - babies of this age sleep 18 hours a day
Detailed Answer:
Hi....you need not worry. Babies of this age group sleep 18 hours a day.
3 days old baby may not have eye contact. Don't worry.
But I have a few questions for you -
1. You said the baby is floppy....how are the baby's movements?
2. Does the baby move hands and legs normally when active?
3. How is the baby feeding?
