Do Benazepril, Omeprazole And Metoprolol Cause Cough?
Question: I have had a cough for six months. I have lost my voice frequently and cannot talk. It is very sporadic, irritating and keeps me awake a night. I have tried herbal remedies and generic cough medicines. I am on Benazopril, Omeprazole, Metoprolol, Celexa, Atorvastatin and hydrochlorothyazide. The cough is so draining and I discovered that all of these meds cause a cough. I want to get off the medications. How can I do so safely?
Brief Answer:
First take off Benzopril.

Thanks for posting your query.
Among all the medicines you are taking it is Benzopril that has the highest probability to cause Cough. This drug is used to reduce blood pressure .
This drug can be stopped immediately provided an alternative drug is given in place of Benzopril . I recommend you ask your doctor to prescribe Amlong / or even Metoprolol dose can be increased.
Even after stopping Benzopril for 2 weeks if cough persists then we shall consider taking off another drug.
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.
Regards.
