default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: My husband was at ER this AM and was told he has a low hernia. He was given the following medication to take and he is concerned about taking them as he has colitis: Ciprofloxacin 500 mg and metronidazole 500mg.
He already has issues with a sick stomach and is afraid the medication will make it worse. We did tell the doctor that he has colitis. Can you advise at this time?

Brief Answer:
Injections an option, can be considered if needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your query.

I shall make an effort to provide you with good professional recommendations specific to your questions.

Colitis is not exactly a contraindication for administration of the two antibiotics prescribed. It is necessary for the antibiotics to check the infective causes that may have caused the symptoms. If really sick, and vomiting is a concern then oral medications may be discontinued and antibiotic injections can be a good option, in this case admission in hospital may be necessary. Prophylactic antibiotics are necessary in many cases such as this and are quite good at relieving the symptoms.

Do discuss your concerns with above details with your doctor and let me know if more fears come by, as I believe this treatment is as per my line of prescription too.

Let me know if I have missed out any other concern in your question.

Yet again, I duly appreciate your query to me, I do hope that you have found something useful to help you and I shall be glad to answer any further apprehensions.

Sincerely,
