Do I Need To Worry About Blood Clots I Had My First Dose ?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jan 2025
Question: I am 61 years old. I had my first dose of Covishield vaccine on 27th of March. Last week I had a severe stomach pain , I consulted my doctor and he suggested whole abdomen ultrasound. Ultrasound report is normal and I did a complete blood count and D-Dimer blood test. D-Dimer is 3.4 microgram/mL(FEU) and ESR 32 mm/1st hr. My doctor told that I have colon infection(I had outside food just before start of stomach ache) and he prescribed antibiotics, probiotic and sucral, Pan D.

Since I had taken covid vaccine first shot and have elevated level of D-Dimer , so do I need to worry about blood clots.

Brief Answer:
Elevated D-dimer and ESR due to colon infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your blood reports.
The blood reports show elevated D-dimer,elevated ESR and borderline vitamin D.
I suggest you to take vitamin D supplements to prevent the vitamin D levels from decreasing.
The dosage and duration of vitamin D may be taken from your primary healthcare provider.
The D-dimer and ESR are raised.
Both the parameters can be raised in colon infection.
The parameters will come to normal after treatment of infection.
The vaccine covishield is safe and is not known to cause raised d-dimer levels.
Blood clotting is not a usual side effect of the vaccine.
You can safely take the second dose of vaccine as recommended by your health facilities.

Thanks and take care
