Do TAXI 500 And Duoluton L Affect Lactation?

Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: Hello Doctor, I am mother of 4 month old.
I had very mild infertility treatment for 4 months and then I conceived. During my first trimester I was diagnosed of Placenta Previa which my the last trimester shifted up as per my Gynaec. Doctor advised C-Section during which I suffered heavy bleeding. I was hospitalised for 8 days. I had bleeding for nearly 40 days and then it stopped. Then sometimes spotting and sometimes heavy bleeding was observed since then. I had Taxi-500 medicines. Both USG and TVS scans showed normal results with no concern. I had no infection as per the swab culture reports. As per my doctor, its the issue of hormones so he advised both Taxi 500 (for 3 days) and Duoluton L (for 21 days) but in the first 5 days my baby showed signs of reaction in his stools since I am breastfeeding, hence I discontinued and requested doctor to continue the treatment when my baby starts weaning. Today I had heavy flow.
I am really worried. The bleeding happens and then suddenly stops and then again. Sometimes its just spotting and sometimes heavy. What's wrong? And why is it still happening after 4 months of my delivery. I don't feel any pain. Just the normal backache that usually happens post surgery.
Please advice.

Brief Answer:
minipill advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety related to the issue.
It is just a hormonal imbalance and is seen in 3-5% of patients in post delivery period.
You need to be on hormones for 4-6 months at least.
Visit your gynaecologist and discuss the use of minipill.
It is a progesterone only pill and this has no effect on lactation or baby and also will regulate your periods and blood flow and give you contraception also.
In case you have any other questions, please fell free to ask.
Regards

whenever this bleeding starts i suffer more backache.. and since last 3 months i am losing a lot (i mean a lot) hair. Is it all because of hormonal imbalance? And as i cant take any chance with my baby's health, i am concerned about medicine intake. And will it be surely a permanent solution so that i can discuss with my doctor? i am really getting worried of it now.

Brief Answer:
Safe drug

Detailed Answer:
Hair fall is just because of post pregnancy status and is seen in all patients after delivery and is normal and will come to halt in a couple of months for sure without treatment.
You can increase your water and protein intake by taking pulses, soyabean and cottage cheese as much as possible and egg and chicken in case you are a non vegetarian.
As far as use of minipill is concerned, it is very much safe and is routinely prescribed but since it is a prescription drug you will have to discuss this with your gynecologist and fetch a prescription.
I understand your concern about baby and safety of the drug but there is nothing to worry as it safe and harmless.
All the best.
