Subinvolution of uterus is a condition in which the uterus does not return to its normal size after childbirth.

thank you very much. is there any reason why sub involution of the uterus might appear to be placenta left in uterus requiring a "D and C" In other words patient was bleeding heavily had D and C but pathololgy report indicated there was no products of reproduction left in uterus but was merely a sub involuted uterus n thank hope question makes sense

Firstly, Retained bits of placenta can cause subinvolution of uterus.
Secondly, there can be subinvolution of placental site of uterus and cause for this is not known. This can be a reason for heavy bleeding.
And probably due to this reason, D and C was done in this case.
A regular follow-up with gynecologist is advised for this patient to know future status of uterus.
Ergometrine (prescription drug) can help in involution process.
