Do Birth Control Pills Delay Ovulation?
Question: I'm going to see my husband on May 24- XXXXXXX 5. But I usually get my period on the 27-30. So I Start taking birth control pills on April 30 which was my first day of my menstrual cycle and stopped taking it after 6 days, I did that to adjust my ovulation cycle so when I see him I will have more likely to get pregnant. I don't know if that's true. Whats the best way to get pregnant? And what to do?
Brief Answer:
you shall ovulate by may14-16
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
Unfortunately it doesn't go the way you think. Ovulation shall occur by May 14-16 anyhow if your cycles have been regular in last 6 months. Taking oc pills will not delay ovulation at all. Your next menses should be due by 30 may and you are meeting your husband in the last week when the ovum would have already dissoluted.
Though the chances of pregnancy are but there are cases of delayed ovulation, you may be lucky. You can try unprotected intercourse but medically you cannot delay your ovulation.
Regards

What if I will continue to take birth control pills for the next 7 days? It's like I am taking pills from April 1-13? Then I will stopped taking pills on the 13th. Is it possible to get my menstrual cycle early right after I stopped taking the pills? Coz last time when I took pills, I had my menstrual cycle right after I stopped the pills.

Well if you take the pill till may 14th then your withdrawal bleeding should start by may 20-22nd and then you shall start your fresh cycle and likely that you should be in your fertile period again ( ovulation time) by june5th onwards. You may tract your ovulation with ovulation kits from day 10 each day of your fresh cycle and when it shows positve then next 36 hrs you should be ovulating and that is the best time to conceive for you.

My husband will be leaving for deployment. The only time we gonna be together is from May 24- XXXXXXX 5. Is it possible if I can stop taking pills on the May 8th-10th that way I can have my withdrawal bleed after. Am I still gonna get withdrawal bleed if I only take pills for short days? I just want to ovulate or have the high chances of getting pregnant in between May 24-June 5. Thank you Dr for all the help. I'm sorry if I'm being repeatedly. We just want to have a baby soon. Thank you again.

I understand here completely. You have to understand that withdrawal bleeding occurs once the progesterone go down during the luteal phase of the cycle, now you are in your early proliferative phase, so all i can say is you should stop these pills right now and should take a 5 days course of Tab Primolut -N 5mg twice a day for next 5 days and then stop. Then you should receive a withdrawal in next 7 days, 18th may in that case and that should give you a fair chance by XXXXXXX 2nd to 5th to be in your fertile period.
