Do Difficulty Concentrating On A Task And Nervousness Suggest Dementia?
difficult to distinguish between two sometimes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Sometimes it becomes difficult to differentiate between anxiety and ADD.
Many symptoms are overlapping like:
Anxiety is characterized by chronic feelings of nervousness or worry or fear without apparent cause, difficulty controlling the worry or fear, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping, irritability, and physical complaints such as headaches or stomachaches.
Whereas, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is depicted as chronic inattention, making careless mistakes, difficulty sustaining attention during a task, disorganization, becoming easily distracted, and exhibiting frequent forgetfulness.
ADD/ADHD is a major diagnosis. If sometimes the diagnosis is not clear at one interview, we observe the patient longitudinally giving him the treatment for a more probable and common diagnosis.
Celexa (apart from being antidepressant) is an antianxiety drug as well.
I would suggest you to continue with this drug and observe its effects for atleast 1 month. If your symptoms improve, keep taking this.
Keep in touch with your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Take care.
Thanks.
