Do Exercise Or Acupuncture Help In Treating Weakness In Legs?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 May 2016
Question: I am 83 years old and my legs are becoming. Increasingly weak...frighteningly so. I use a stick and can walk for about ten minutes before my legs start to get tired and the balance becomes not good. I have had this problem for several years. I have been given excercises by the Falls ClinIc (I had a bad fall 2 years ago), but my legs are still on the downward trend. Perhaps massage would help? Acupuncture?
I am hypothyroid (50mcg daily). My Doctor tells me to keep moving. Any guidance, or suggestion would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
You may be having cervical myelopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. There is nerve compression in spine which is causing myelopathy. That can cause pain in walking. I have following suggestions for you.
1. Get MRI of the spine to confirm the diagnosis.
2.If there is nerve compression then you might need surgery to remove that nerve compression.
3.Tablet Pregabalin M should be taken at night time. Methyl cobal will improve nerve strength.
4.Tablet Baclofen 10 mg should be started after discusing with neurologist.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
