Do Fibroids Cause Harm To The Baby During Pregnancy?
My LMP is 8/mar/2014. on my 14 wk 3rd day I had bleeding. Initially fresh blood then dark brown for a week. I have attached my USG report, where there are two fibroids . I would like to know the following
1) What is the risk of these fibroids interfering with babies growth. As the fibroid is huge and takes up more than half of uteras, will there be some problem to the GSac and the fetus.
2) Would I be experiencing more such bleeding episodes ?
3) will I be experiencing pain ?
4) how much more the fibroids might grow
5) is there a chance (how high is it ?)that I will miscarry later on in my pregnancy
I am presently in the following medication
1) SUSTEN- VT 200 twice a day
2) FOL 123 once a day
3) thyronorm 12.5 mg once Before brkfast
Details below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
In the ultrasound scan report attached the size of the fibroid cannot be detected. It would be best if you could attach the radiologists summary report for better evaluation.
1. The size of the fibroid does not usually interfere with the baby's growth. It grows as the uterine muscle grows in pregnancy.
2. The bleeding episode you had was likely to be due to incomplete attachment of the placenta. These episodes are not expected in future if the placenta is not low lying or covering the os of the uterus.
3. mild pain and uterine craps may be there due to enlarged size of the uterus.
4. They can even double in their size till the full term. The exact size is difficult to predict right now.
5. The chances of miscarriage due to the fibroids are not more than 5%.
The medicines you are taking are correct and do go for a regular follow up.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

I have attached two jpg files corresponding to the radiologists report.
i have also rewritten the Fibroid part below
'there is evidence of largeconglomerated nodular lesions with internal cystic areas in fundal region, measuring about 11.7 * 10.1 *10.8 cm in size.another similar lesion in anterior myometrium, measures about 4.2 *2.6 cm in size'
questions
1) Can the fibroid grow and come in contact with G-sac and placenta ?
2) if they come in contact with placenta , what is the outcome?
3) if they come in contact with g sac what is the outcome ?
4) how often in my case should i do USG, to monitor the situation ?
5) isnt there any medicine to stop the fibroid's growth any further ?
6) again the same questions with the size and position mentioned, and if i consider it will grow more in size, what are the chances i can carry to term ?
7) should I be in bed rest ? or i can carry normal activities?
Details below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
1 2 & 3 ) The fibroid cannot grow and come in contact with placenta or g. sac as it is within the musculature of the uterus. It does not penetrate into the uterine cavity. It will not have any effect on any of these.
4) USG done every 6 weeks is sufficient to monitor the routine progress. In case there is any complication then frequent monitoring may be needed.
5) No.
6) You can carry till full term easily. Chances of complications due to the fibroids is less than 5%.
7) You can carry with your normal activities if you are comfortable doing them.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.

i have heard that progesterone and esttrogen fuels the growth of the fibroids. Is my progesterone intake by any chance causing more harm ?
Does not affect placenta.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Attachment of placenta to the fibroid does not make it weak as the fibroid has a good blood supply.
Taking progesterone supplements can increase the growth of fibroid but that is true for the progesterone secreted by the placenta also. This progesterone supplementation is needed to continue your pregnancy and can be stopped after 16 weeks after consulting your gynecologist.
