Question: My husband was talking to someone and all of a sudden he found he was having difficulty talking because his tongue felt strange. No other symptoms. It lasted for 20 to 30 minutes. His tongue didn’t feel dry, he said it just felt like his tongue was sticking to the roof of his mouth. He still doesn’t seem to talk very clear. slurred speach, but not really. Hard to explain.

Brief Answer:

Could be a Transient ischemic attack.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

This could be a transient ischemic attack of the brain, in which blood supply to a part of the brain may remain occluded for some time. He should visit a Neurologist and preferably get an MRI of the brain to see for any brain damage.

Is he a Diabetic or Hypertensive? Does he have heart disease or any other illness?

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Not diabetic or hypertensive. Did have brain aneurysm 14 years ago. He came through it with no side effects.

He took a CLaritin 10mg allergy pill yesterday morning then he took a Zyrtec 10mg last night before going to bed. He is wondering if that could have been the cause. He says his tongue seems to lean to the left.

Brief Answer:

A brain aneurysm is unlikely to present like this.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Claritin and Zyrtec usually don't cause such an effect. Also, the aneurysm is unlikely to have this presentation.

I suggest that brain imaging(MRI) should preferably be done. A personal visit to a Neurophysician with a neurological assessment can further guide the investigations well.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
