Do Persistent Heartburn And Pain At The Groin Hernia Repair Site A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Aug 2018
Question: My husband is 41. He had a right groin hernia repair about 12 years ago. He is experiencing pain exactly in the hernia area. The pain spreads to his hip and upward. It has progressively gotten worse over the past 3 -4 months. Pain increases after he eats. He started getting regular heartburn about 3 weeks ago. Sometimes the pain doubles him over. Bloodwork was "normal", though I don't know what they were looking for. He does not have another hernia in the area. Ultrasound came back today with "no abnormalities". Dr. says they can't find anything and wants to send him on his way. What could be wrong or what other tests could be done?

Brief Answer:
find details of possible conditions and recommended tests .

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

* There are two separate components of his discomfort which I am narrating
separately .

1. Pain at hernia site is in relation with nerve pinching or ligament related .
( Though other hip pathology has to be considered keeping in view of pain
spreading )
MRI of groin and upper thigh is best diagnostic tool for the same .

2. Heart burn is due to gastritis with or without ulcer condition .
Upper GI endoscopy is best tool to evaluate it .

Kindly provide further necessary details for better evaluation .

1. Groin pain - type , frequency .
2. Any difficulty in movements of hip joints , walking , jogging
3. Any alteration in urination or bowel habits .
