Do Statin Drugs Lower Magnesium Level In Body?
Question: I started to take 500mg of magnesium. I am on lipitor 40mg, I have been lately lothargic and muscle cramps and I heard statin drugs deplete the body of magnesium. am i doing right

It is true that statins can lower the body's magnesium stores but replacing with supplements is seldom done. However, cramps and lethargy can be symptoms of low magnesium. My advise would be to see how well your symptoms improve on this magnesium. If they respond, fine and if thy don't, you may want to get you serum electrolytes including magnesium measured.
