Do Traveling And Change In Altitude Have An Effect On The Menstrual Pattern?
I have been under an unusually high amount of stress over the last month and even minor anxiety attacks.
I had read that travel between time zones and altitude changes can affect your menstrual cycle. Is this at all true?
It seems like it might just be stress. I had planned on taking a test if I don't get my period in a few days. I had been on birth control for 10+ years and about 6 months ago stopped taking the pill for personal reasons. The first few months my period came about every 26-27 days. It seems the last few months the time between each cycle is getting a bit longer, so I'm not exactly sure when my period will start or if it is normal for the cycle to adjust. The last two cycles have increased by about 2 days each time.
Delay is likely to be due to pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Stress, anxiety and travel between time zones are common reasons for delay in periods. A delay by 4-5 days is not worrisome. The chances of pregnancy are low. The delay in periods is more likely to be due to travelling.
After you stop taking the pills, it takes a few cycles for the normal hormonal balance of the body to restore. It is best to wait for a few days more and then test your urine for pregnancy in case the periods do not start.
