Question: I had a procedure performed on me as a child (4yo) for bed wetting in which the doctor put tubes/instruments into my urethra while I was conscious and eventually I was asked to pee on the operating table. Do you know what this procedure was called? This was in the US at a military hospital.

Brief Answer:
Can be cystoscopy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I think you may have done cystoscopy.
I don't think it would have been done for bed wetting because it can be normal at that age . It may have been done because of urethral stricture or narrowing of the urethra and the procedure may have helped to dilate urethra.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.

Hi Dr. Xhufka,

I met someone else (another woman) that had this done in the ‘90’s. It was an experimental treatment related to bedwetting. For both of us, it caused years of UTIs and trauma. US military doctors have significantly less liability for malpractice and so there’s more experimentation. However, my doctor was eventually arrested for child sex abuse.

This may be a specialist or even medical historian question.

It’s reassuring to know it wasn’t commonplace and I gather that from your response.

Thanks so much, XXXXXXX

Hello dear and thank you for writing again.
I am sorry to hear these details from you.
This procedure is not that common and can be exactly as you said. Can be a medical history question and you can gather more data around your country .
Sorry again about this situation.
