Do You Think The Break Could Have Caused Some Sort Of Nerve Damage?
Question: I had a stress fracture of my right foot in January 2024. It was a couple breaks in the second metatarsal. I saw a doctor and wore a boot for almost 3 months. Now, almost 10 months later, I suffer periodic sharp pains across the top of that foot. Sometimes it is fine, other times, when I walk, it is numb or tingling or sharp pains are present at the top. Do you think the break could have caused some sort of nerve damage?
Brief Answer:
The break ( Stress fracture )is unlikely to cause these symptoms.
Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
I have read your complaints .
These are symptoms suggestive of neurological involvement and are not likely to be caused by old stress fracture.
Old stress fracture can cause pain on walking .
Sharp pains on the top of foot with numbness and tingling are suggestive of Neurological involvement at the level of Spine or knee.
I suggest you get MRI Lower Back as a first step.
Treatment would depend on the cause.
Thanks for the question. I hope to have answered your query to satisfaction. Please feel free to ask any other question.

The pain does occur when I am walking. It doesn’t hurt every time I walk - but periodically I get those sharp nerve pains while walking. The pains are across the top of my foot. I do not experience these pains if I am not walking. Does that change your answer? Thank you! Jane
