Doctor Said They Observed A 3 Mm Anechoic Region On

Question: Doctor said they observed a 3 mm anechoic region on the baby head in my 9 week ultrasound but they don’t know what it is until I go in again. What could this be? Is this a cyst and are they common? It’s more toward the back of the head. Will this go away and if it was a choroid plexus cyst wouldn’t they have written that on the report?

Hi,
Welcome to Ask a Doctor. I am doctor Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I have read your notes. They probably meant fluid collection at the back of the neck. Choroid plexus cysts are detected usually from 16 weeks of pregnancy. When is your next appointment for follow up scan.
Can you please upload the ultrasound images and the films too so that I can tell you clearly what exactly it is.
Will be waiting for your reply.
Best wishes.

Hi,
Welcome back.
This scan is too early to comment. It probably is a lateral ventricle image seen at an angle. A repeat scan done at 11-12 weeks will confirm its significance.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.
Best wishes.
