Does Acyclovir Help Cure Shingles?

Question: Acyclovir was prescribed for shingles. I am scheduled for a CT scan and am supposed to start a Barium prep tonight. I also take blood pressure medicine. The ER doctor said I could take the shingles medicine and do the Barium prep, but I would appreciate a second opinion. Thank-you.
Brief Answer:
there are some risks with IV contrast media
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
no problem is expected with per os preparation and adequate hydration but IV contrast media may interact with acyclovir and increase the risk for kidney damage, particularly if you've got an abnormal creatinine level. In theory the per os drugs may increase the risk for kidney injury too but good hydration reduces the risk significantly. If you'd like to tell me the names of the drugs you're going to take it would help me to give you a more specific answer.
Kind Regards!
