Ibuprofen / advil is an NSAID. Yes, it can potentially damage your kidneys. This is especially true if they have been used chronically for painful conditions such as arthritis.

NSAIDs lower the blood flow to kidneys and can lead to chronic or acute kidney disease.

If there is no predisposing condition then a single dose of ibuprofen doesn't make much of a difference especially in younger individuals with no comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes etc.
