Does Amlodipine Cause Hair Loss?
2.can certain diabetes medications/metformin cause hair loss? alternatives meds?
3.can meclizine (a medication for vertigo) cause hair loss?alternatives meds?
Consider this
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Please see that amlodipine does cause hair loss but in less than 5 per cent cases.
But other alternatives as beta blockers as atenolol and ace inhibitors as enalapril and losartan cause more hair loss. As beta blocker bisoprolol is safe.
Metformin does cause hair loss but this is due to associated vit b12, vit b9 and coenzyme q10.
Other alternatives as glimepiride are safe.
Meclizine causes hair loss and an alternative is cinnarizine 25 mg which is safe.
Now I will conclude that usually, hair fall is due to multiple drugs patient is taking...and also due to drug-induced nutritional deficiency.
And sometimes we have to take side effect in order to get saved from serious disease.
And my verdict is that you may avoid meclizine, add the multivitamin antioxidant combination to metformin but let amlodipine continue.
As other alternatives to amlodipine are also not so helpful for hair loss.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You should note that even normal people lose up to 100 hair per day.
If you lose more than this then you should be worried.
And hair loss is caused by any chronic disease like diabetes and hypertension.
So please first keep your BP and sugar level under check.
BP should be below 140/90 mm Hg .and FBS, RBS and HbAic under control.
Amlodipine or bisoprolol both are good medicines for BP but drug should be chosen by the doctor taking into consideration other factors as ECG or lipid profile or Peripheral vascular disease history.
So overall amlodipine is better tolerated than bisoprolol.
You are taking a multivitamin and it should contain vitamin 12 also .omega component is ok.
Cinnarizine is not an alternative to metformin.
Alternative to metformin is glimepride.
Cinnarizine is alternative to meclizine.
But I am again stressing the point that metformin is the drug of choice for diabetes. If you take vit b12 along with metformin your hair loss problem may be solved.
Metformin is second best to insulin for diabetics.
So my verdict is that take proper control of sugar and bp level plus take amlodipine and metformin along with multivitamin having vit b12 ..replace meclizine with cinnarizine.
Please do not get confused by my answer as usually BP and diabetes drugs are prescribed by doctors after considering many factors.
Hope this helps.

Yes...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes. You may try ginkgo biloba.
As ginkgo is a general neurotonic product and is added in many over the counter products. you can take this if it helps you. Cinnarizine is an allopathic drug. So you may give a trial to use ginkgo for a week to see results otherwise cinnarizine will definitely help you.
Hope I have answered your query.
