Does Amoxicillin Interact With Acticlate?
Question: I was taking Amoxicillin for a tooth extraction but stopped to take Acticlate(Doxycline) for an ongoing acne issue. I am 45 years old and have taken the Acticlate in the past with no issues. However, I am experiencing occasional mild to moderate abdominal pain and stomach discomfort with mild gas and digestion noises. There was only about a 15 hour gap between switching to the Acticlate. Also, I haven't been taking the medication with a full glass of water and was on an empty stomach. I am only taking 150mg per day of the Acticlate but was on 1500mg of Amoxicillin. The stomach issues started after about 3-4 days of the Amoxicillin which I stopped taking after the six day. What do you think? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Taking Probiotics will be helpful.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to dysbacteriosis caused by Amoxicillin . So taking probiotics will be helpful to normalize this. I would suggest probiotics like Sacharomycces boulardii or bifidobacter. Taking yogurt or kefir or curd is also good.
Taking h2 blockers like Ranitidine (zantac) for 5 days will be helpful to normalize the bowel irritation also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

After talking with my wife and Mother, I now realize I had this stomach/Intestine issue for 3-4 days before I started any antibiotics. It seemed to get better so I assumed it was from the antibiotics but my symptoms are the same as before.
I ate dinner, drank a glass of Kiefer, and took my 150mg of Doxycline(Acticlate) with a full glass of water. After 2 hours, the pains resumed, which I expected since I ate. However, I now have a fever of 100.7 which is up from 100, 45 minutes ago.
I did have a fever of 100-100.2 the first time I had these symptoms about 14-15 days ago. It came on at night and was gone in the morning.
Your thoughts...should I take an aspirin or just monitor my temp?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Fever should be investigated.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up query.
As you having fever for 2 weeks, it should be investigated. Blood routine and stool microscopy should be carried out. Serological test for typhoid should be done also. Temperature should be recorded also. But if above 100 you can take antipyretic like paracetamol.
A consultation with physician is well appreciated.
