Does Amoxicillin Reduce The Efficiency Of Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo?
Question: Hi, I am on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, I got an ear infection and was prescribed Amoxacillin and have been on it for 2 days, I am ovulating until the 12th, my boyfriend is leaving the country in a few days, we want to have sex, but don't really want a child quite yet, I want to know all my options of what I can do to accomplish all this, and also how great the risks are for me if we go ahead and have unprotected sex anyway.

My advice is the following:
1. Orthoe Tri cyclen Lo is a good contraceptive pill. If you have been taking it as prescribed, the chances of getting pregnant are less than 2%. Amoxicillin has no effect on the efficiency of this pill.
2. In addition to this pill, you may use condoms and increase your chances of not getting pregnant.
3. Ovulation usually last 36-48H. I am not sure while yours would last this long. Please, send to me the date of your last menses for further calculations on this.

My cycle started on XXXXXXX 27th and ended, July3erd. I just used an ovulation calculator on www.babycenter.com, it gave me the dates I told you, but I guess I really don't know much about it.

Ovulation date is calculated by adding 14days from the date of start of your menses. 27th XXXXXXX + 14days =11th of July. To be on a safe side, 9th -13th of july should be a very unfriendly period for you!
I will say use condoms and the pills as recommended and this will be a great assurance that you will not get pregnant if you must have sex.
