Does Avastin Eye Injections Cause Dropped Kidney Function?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Question: I have diabetic eyes(rietenopothy) my kidney specialist indicated that my kidney function dropped 16% in one year and told me it was due to Avasrin eye injections
There are other products such as Eyelea and Ozurdex but he recommends to avoid all of these as he has seen the damage in his patients due to the injections.
Do you have any recommendations please and thank you. XXXXXXX

There is some evidence that Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy may result in systemic absorption, with the potential for injury in organs that are reliant on VEGF, such as the kidney.

There have been case reports case of patient who develope an acute decrease in kidney function and the risk of kidney disease.

Early detection is crucial so that intravitreal injections can be stopped before severe kidney disease occurs.

Lucentis an alternative to Avastin has been seen to cause Renal problems in up to 6% patients.

The new intravitreal drug Eyelea has also been reported to cause renal changes.

As there has been documented drop in kidney function you are not adviced to continue Anti VEGF therapy.

You can go in fir drastic life style change and blood sugar control. If you condition permits you can go in for combined therapy of Lasers and Surgery.

Please do get back to us in case of any query.
