Brief Answer:
Difficulty in urination is due to Dothep.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been taking Pregabolin (Lyrica) for pain management and Dothep (anti depressant drug ) have taken Bethanechol and now has difficulty in passing urine.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) What is the primary illness that you are taking these drugs for ?
2) Do you have other obstructing voiding symptoms like urgency, increased frequency for urination etc ?
3) Have you done ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis to assess size of prostate or to rule out bladder outlet obstruction?

Anti depressant drugs are known to have side effects of difficulty in passing urine and sometimes cause retention of urine .

Bethanechol is a cholinergic drug and is prescribed to increase the power of bladder contraction which helps to pass the urine with ease.It will never cause difficulty in passing urine .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and Digital Rectal examination and get basic tests like Ultrasound Scanning done to rule out enlarged prostate or bladder outlet obstruction as a cause of a difficulty in passing urine .

In the mean while stop taking Dothep for few days and observe for improvement in flow of urine .

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to write if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards .

I have stoppped taking Dothep for 4 weeks now and only slight improvement, in urinating . I have been taking Lyrica and Dothep for pain relieve in my brain and they worked well together. I have seen a urologist for enlarged prostate and had ultrasounds and all the tests done for other things. They could find no problem. And suggested no solutions. I know you say the bethanechol 10 mg did not cause the problem, but i took it just before i went to sleep and when i woke up in the morning i could not pass urine like every other morning. I am desperate for a solution to this problem. Can you suggest medication to increase urine flow or to simulate the bladder. Intially i was on oxycodone for 3 years 2011 - feb 2014 which helped me so much, but i had swallon ankles in feb 2014 and was given Frusemide 40 mg to reduce swelling, which it did , but when I stopped taking it I could not urinate properly, ended up in hospital, where they just gave me lots of fluids to pass urine which i did, and the gave me antibiotics, and sent me home. After things did not improve my uncle who is a surgeon put me on Dothep and Lyrica, and i began to urinate about 90% of the time till i took Bethanechol. I am in alot of pain due to the fact i stopped taking Dothep. Should i go back on oxycodone to see if the inital problem caused by the frusemide has gone. Could you please answer all my questions. Thank you very much

Brief Answer:
Bethanechol will never cause retention of urine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for detail history.
I again emphasize that Bethanechol will never cause difficulty in passing urine .It is just a coincidence .

Frusemide which helped you to pass urine is a drug that stimulates kidneys to produce more urine and has no action on act of urination.

The Oxycodone and Dothep are habit forming drugs and as all the tests that you have done are normal I think your problem is mostly Psychological in nature Please consult qualified Psychiatrist and Urologist for detail assessment.
Thanks and Regards.
