Does Carvedilol For BP Cause High Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jul 2015
Question: Hello. My resting pulse has been in the upper 90s and low 100s for the last few weeks. I am on blood pressure medicine: amlodipine, lisinipril Hydrochlorathiazide. My doctor added recently coreg (carvedilol), and wonder if it is contributing to these high rates? (BP 138/103 and 147/99 two days ago.) Thank you.

Brief Answer:
No worries, Coreg dont cause Tachycardia. Your rate & BP is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Heart rate between 60 and 100 is normal and is nothing to worry about. Any beat less than 100 or even 100 is sinus rhythm and normal heart rate. So No worries.

A s far as carvedilol is concerned so it is a Beta one selective blocker and instead of causing increased rate ( as per your suspicions) it rather decreases it and thus helps control the blood pressure.

Your blood pressure readings are good and seems to be under control so keep it up. Stay compliant to the meds and modify diet and lifestyle like low sodium intake, low cholesterol intake, regular exercise, no smoking etc.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
