Does Cortisone Shot Help Alleviate Pain From A Lateral Meniscus Flap Tear?

Question: How long does an injection of cortisone help with pain. from a lateral meniscus flap tear? My wife's doctor doesn't want to predict when it will wear off, necessitating laparoscopic surgery repair. He just keeps saying that it will wear off and the surgery will have to be done sooner rather than later to be beneficial before the onset of arthritis.
My wife cannot make up her mind, and the doctor says it's doesn't have to be done immediately since she feels better with the cortisone. It's very confusing.Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It cannot be predicted.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir ,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your problem I will like to tell you that your doctor is right as it cannot be predicted how long the cortisone shot will last , it varies from individual to individual . Sine it's. a tear in meniscus that your wife is having , it has to be repaired eventually . Generally doctors give a trial of cortisone shot and once its effect weans surgery is done . Very rarely the tear may heal up depending on the grade of tear . I think you are in right hands and your doctor is treating you adequately so please follow as he advises you . Any other query please ask .
Take care.

Since It takes several weeks to schedule a procedure, at what point should she then start the process to do it? She doesn't want to wait until her knee locks again, which is what caused the recent painful event with the flap that she didn't even know she had. Thanks.

She received her shot 3 weeks ago and feels much better right now, almost 100%.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
I think you should wait for 3 months if pain relief persists and the evaluation should be done again to look for status of knee . But if before that pain returns see your doctor early.
