Does EEG Testing Determine Night Terrors And Seizures?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: I recently had a question about my grand daughter. Her pediatrician recently explained that she would need a sleep study and EEG to determine if her night terrors were possible seizures. Did I understand that the EEG will show any activity of seizures in the past or present.

Brief Answer:
Sleep study and EEG will show the present situation.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back to HCM Yarbro.

Sleep study and video EEG will show if there are any abnormalities that are related to seizures only in present.

An important part of the diagnostic process is a careful clinical and neurologic examination and evaluation.

If sleep study and EEG will diagnose seizures, clinical investigation about past symptoms in correlation with present observed ones will show most probably that seizures were there.

If no seizures after sleep study and EEG, your granddaughter is suffering from night terrors.

Hope I helped you. Avaiting to hear about the sleep study and EEG results.

Hope the best for you and your granddaughter.
