default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: I have genital herpes. I take 800mg of acyclovir every day. I haven't had an outbreak on over 2 years. I have a new boyfriend. I will insist that he wear a condom... but what about oral sex?

Brief Answer:
HSV 2 transmission through oral sex is unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

Genital herpes is caused by HSV Type 2. This virus can manifest in and around ano-genital region and not elsewhere in the body as this virus prefers to live in a moist and warm environment which is prevailing in and around human genitalia.
More over you are on long term suppressive therapy for HSV 2 Infection. So transmission of HSV 2 infection through oral sex is quite unlikely to occur.
