Does Implanon Cause False Negative Pregnancy Test?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Oct 2016
Question: Hi, i was wondering if it was possible for the Implanon to give a false negative on a home pregnancy test?
I have a feeling i might be pregnant but I had the Implanon changed in XXXXXXX 2016 and don't get my period because of it, so I'm curious as to if it's possible or not. Thankyou!

Brief Answer:
get a serum beta hcg test done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
It usually takes another 2 weeks for the implanon to start working after a change to bring progesterone levels high enough to avoid ovulation. So as you had a change in XXXXXXX 2016, it is effective since then. If you did not have any menses since XXXXXXX and no pregnancy symptoms since then , in that case you are not pregnant at all. FALSE negatives with implanon in situ are rare.
However if you wish to be sure then you may get a serum beta hcg test done to rule out pregnancy conclusively. If the hcg levels are less than 3mIU, then you are surely not pregnant.
Regards
