Does Lasix Cause Kidney Damage?
Question: My wife has been advised to take Lasix when her ankles swell by one DR. A website indicates it may harm kidneys. Her kidney DR told her to take it when necessary. SO what is the correct approach? Does Lasix hurt one's kidneys and how much is necessary for harmful effects?
Brief Answer:
Lasix does not hurt kidneys.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Lasix is a diuretic medicine it helps in producing more urine and therefore decrease the swelling in legs by removing the excess water from the body. the dose can vary from 20mg to 160 mg per day. patients with normal creatinine value needless dose of lasix. lasix (frusemide) does not affect kidneys but can indirectly cause dehydration and kidney problem if used in excess.
So you can actually take half tablet of 40mg as per advice of your doctor on as per need basis.
Best wishes.
