Does Lipitor Cause Nails Thickening And Splitting?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2014
Question: my husband takes lipitor, and his nails are cracked and splitting. His thumbnails are unsightly...he wears tips of golf gloves over his thumbs at night.. (they are very dirty and black.) now he has the habit of constantly picking at them. Any suggestions?
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Can we have an image of these nails?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the problem your husband has with her nails. I understand how disturbing it can be to have your nails not very sight friendly. I hope we get to find the cause and address it.

Can you please upload some images so that I can take a closer look and understand what is going on for a more detailed and personalized response?

Nails thickening and splitting is not a known side effect of Lipitor. There are other disease conditions that ay cause similar symptoms and representation like psoariasis, bacteria infection, etc. With the image, it would be easier to narrow down the possible causes.

There is no emergency here and I will prefer to wait and obtain the images before making some conclusions and suggestions. I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.
