Does Prednisone Interact With Moxifloxacin?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: Hi - I took Zithromycin three weeks ago as well as 20mg of Prednisone for a respiratory infection. The infection is back and I've been prescribed Moxifloxacin. I know that these drugs can have adverse interactions, but is it okay for me to take the Moxifloxacin now? I don't want to snap my Achilles tendon!!! Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Tendon rupture, tendinitis related to quinolone use such as moxifloxacin occurs in less than 1 percent of patients. This incidence increases with the addition of steroids. Overall it's a safe drug and is effective in lower respiratory tract infection. It should be continued.

please consult your doctor before taking any further course of action

Wishing you best of health
