Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
Joint pain is a rare side effect of this drug (Prilosec). However, I would suggest that a proper clinical review be undertaken to exclude other common causes of joint pain, since this is rare with this drug.
It is also important to try to be sure that this pain only started when this drug was started. In some rare circumstances, a rare coincidence with onset of joint disease from another source could be the case.
This is a known side effect of Prilosec, but a rare one.
I suggest a proper review from your doctor to exclude other joint diseases (arthritis, osteoarthritis) before attributing these symptoms to Prilosec. Another option could be stopping the drug for a while and observing the evolution of the pain. This however has to be under medical surveillance to avoid other complications that could arise from the main reason for the drug being prescribed.
An appropriate alternative could be prescribed as the joint pain intensity is monitored.Other alternative proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole (Prilosec) can be prescribed. Esomeprazole could be an alternative.
However, the opinion of your primary physician is highly advised.
Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
