Does Prilosec Help To Treat Stomach Ulcer?
Question: I have a large ulcer. I take 3 Carafate every 6 hours and 1 at bedtime. I have been reading about taking Prilosec and it states Prilosec will help the ulcer heal quicker.months. The doctor states I will be taking Carafate for 2 more months. Can you advise me about taking Prilosec. Thank You
It is a very large Ulcer in my stomach. The pain was intense but easing up to some degree. I had Gastric Bypass 10 years ago and never had any problems. Could this be causing some of my problems. I just want to get well! Thank you for taking time to research this problem. Thank you very much!

Brief Answer:
Prilosec should continue 8-12 weeks treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I read carefully your query and understood your concerns.
With regards to Prilosec use at your case we recommend it 8-12 weeks. After 4 weeks of treatment you need to repeat endoscopy to evaluate the stomach ulcer.
I need to know if you have done breath test or stomach biopsy for H.Pylori.
If It is negative than go on only with Carafate and Prilosec, If it is positive than you should treat with antibiotic and Prilosec.
I recommend to avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy foods and NSAID-s( like advil )
If you have other questions I would be glad to assist you further.
