Question: hello...my age is 28. my lpm was 24 sept 2014 with a 27 day cycle. I took regestrone 5mg from 14 oct to 23 oct. I was confirmed pregnant by upt and beta hcg on 26 oct. Few docs are advising me to stop the pregnancy as regestrone could affect the embryo and few are telling me to continue wit it and this puts me in severe dileama. but aborting this pregnancy wud put severe emotional stress on me. dont know what to do and feeling restless. Also i did my first sono ysday and it says 4-5 weeks pregnanat

Brief Answer:
You can continue your pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern, though.

The use of Registerone (norethindrone) is not recommended during gestation.

It may cause masulanizing (hair growth) effects on the female fetus if taken after 45 days onwards (during the maturation of fetal organ) but no effect seen in the male fetus.

Hence, in your case you can continue your pregnancy because the doses are not very high and you have taken it before 45 days.

To be safer side you should go for repeat test to rule out any congenital anomalies and continue your pregnancy under supervision of a physician.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Enjoy your safe and happy motherhood.

Good luck.

Brief Answer:
Second level ultrasound at 18-20 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you again.

You are welcome here always.

Thank you to you for your gracious word.

I am always happy to assist you.

An anomaly scan (second level ultrasonography test) should be done around 18-20 weeks to rule out fetal anomalies.

In supervision because you are already 28yrs. Old so regular visits to gynecologist and investigation during pregnancy is really important.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.
Regards
Dr.Richa
