Does STD Treatment Have An Effect On HIV AG/AB, 4th Gen Test Results?

Question: Doctor,

My HIV AG/AB, 4th Gen tests came back repeatedly reactive but the HIV AB Differentiation was negative and the HIV 1 RNA, QL TMA was not detected.

What do these results tell me?

I was diagnosed with Syphilis on 07/15/2015 with an RPR Titer value of 1:512 and received a 2.4M unit shot of penicilan.

I took the HIV test about 2 weeks after the STD treatment.

Would appreciate some clarification

I am getting referred to a local infectious disease specialist and will follow up with them very shortly

Fourth generation HIV test kits detect antigen and antibodies for both HIV 1 and 2. If I were your doctor, I shall order PCR testing for HIV RNA of both HIV 1 and 2. I am glad you are going to see the doctor tomorrow. Perhaps you may discuss about the test with the doctor.

Another confirmatory test would be western blot for HIV 1 and 2.
