Does Sulfamethoxazole Interact With Methenamine?
Question: I am on Methanamine Hipp to control uti's. Today I was diagnosed with a uti. This is the first one in over a year. I was prescribed sulfamethoxazole-Tmp ds. Reading info on methenamine hipp it says you shouldn't take them together. But I took on of the sulfa pills after taking the methenamine. Should I discontinue one or the other drug

I have reviewed your drugs and their interactions are severe and dangerous It is advised to stop one of them. In my opinion methenamine can be stopped but I would suggest you to discuss this with your doctor and dont stop it by yourself.
Doctor knows your case well and he is gonna see you in follow up so it is always better to discuss your drugs with your doctor before stopping one. Till then you shouldn't take sulfa drug continue methenamine as you are taking it already for long.. Now drug is easy to stop as blood levels will be low.
