![default](/r/images/default.png)
I am 79 years old and because of COPDI am on oxygen 24/7. Even so, I miss sex and have found someone willing to help me in that area by providing some oral activity the won't leave me short of breath.
Here is a complete list of all my medications:
All 1/day: lipitor 10 mg., metoprolol 25 mg., amlodopine besylate 10 mg. enalapril 20 mg., furosemide 40 mg. potassium Cl. 10 men,melatonin 10 mg., Vit D3 2000U., ropinirolle 2mg., aspirin .81mg.
1/week: alendronate sodium 70 mg.
2 puffs/day: ipatropium mg./albuterol 2.5, Advair discus 250/50
Moderate interaction is known
Detailed Answer:
Greetings and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. Thank you for your question.
Sildenafil (Viagra), by inhibiting phosphodiesterase 5, causes a significant vessel muscle relaxation and, therefore, vasodilation, which, in turn, is accompanied with lowering the blood pressure. With this been said, it has the potential to interact with any anti-hypertensive drug and enhance their effect on the blood pressure. Many studies have been conducted and the interaction between amlodipine and sildenafil is rated from slight to moderate. My opinion is that you should use sildenafil with caution, since you are on more than one anti-hypertensive drug. If you detect any symptom of low blood pressure, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, cold sweats, rapid heart rate, you should contact your physician. For your concern, sildenafil is absolutely counterindicated to be used simultaneously with nitrate derivatives, which are commonly used in patients with coronary chest pain during pain episodes.
I hope my answer is helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton

or would it make a difference if I take the Viagra 8-10 hours after taking the amlodopine?
I will, of course, discuss these options with my doctor here who will prescribe the Viagra.
Use with caution
Detailed Answer:
Hi again and welcome back.
You can use them simultaneously, only with caution, baring in mind the advice I provided in the original answer. Also the alternatives you brought up in your follow-up are acceptable. Therefore, part of caution also is to separate amlodipine and sildenafil 12 hours apart.
I hope my follow-up is helpful. If you do not have further questions, close the discussion and rate the answer.
Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
